Prehispanic Guerrero

Until less than three decades it was believed that in ancient times the current state of Guerrero had been inhabited by many different groups and underdeveloped, without a culture of their own, whose evolution was due to influences from outside cultures.Even well into the twentieth century, Guerrero was left blank on the archaeological map. Just very recently was included as the southern portion of the sub-areas of Mesoamerica: Western Mexico.
There was, however, no explanation for the presence on the territory of variou Guerrero Olmec style and thousands of objects produced under certain local styles and vigorous, which was unknown cultural affiliation and seniority.

As discussed throughout this text, the way it has come in Guerrero archaeological research has been long and difficult, but ultimately has demolished many of the preconceptions and have been able to resolve some of the major puzzles of Guerrero archeology Get to know the past is the task of pre-Conquest archeology.

This discipline, absent, or doubt shortage of written information, relies primarily on the identification, analysis and study of the material remains left by ancient societies as a source of primary information. In this task, the data and the context at the time of the human remains is, the shape and arrangement as associate these remains-are essential not only to establish their age and cultural affiliation, but for genuine data on life Hispanic and social mechanisms that determined. To date the remains using the materials themselves, especially ceramics, with establishing a relative chronology, or is based on the analysis of organic remains through radiocarbon or carbon 14, which provides more reliable dates.

In the temporal aspect handles three main categories: the horizons, periods and phases. The horizons are broader. Overall, the Preclassic or Formative horizon covers from 1500 BC and the Post Classic from 900/1000 AC. until the establishment of the Hispanic culture.

Periods, usually tripartite, are subdivisions of these horizons, while the phases subdivided periods differently in each region and even at each site. In the case of certain regions of Mesoamerica, particularly for Guerrero, is necessary to include quarter horizon, the Epi (650/700-900/1000), which is distinguished by being a brief but intense period of cultural development.
